I work almost exclusively with sheet steel. Ideas for the sculptures are initially sketched out, then patterns on poster board are made and finally traced onto the sheet steel. However, many pieces are also drawn freehand onto the steel.

The individual pieces of the sculpture are then cut out using a small plasma cutter that is very accurate. Some of the individual steel parts are formed by bending and some small detail pieces are added such as the eyes. When all parts are ready they are welded together using a MIG welder. The pieces that are not freestanding on their own get spikes welded on to press into the ground

The finished sculptures are then set outside, lightly sprayed with a mild acid and left to rust naturally giving the look you see. Due to the rust scale that forms on them, they need no further care by you and they can be left out year round

To see several additional pieces in the collection, please vist our Photo Gallery and check back often as new peices are added several times each summer.
